Cagliari is a small seaside city located in Sardinia, one of the main islands of Italy. it has approximately one hundred and fifty thousand inhabitants.

TDM 2000. One of the main associations for youth projects in Cagliari is TDM 2000. This association was born in 2000 with the idea of helping young people from all over Europe to meet and collaborate on the common ground of intercultural dialogue and active citizenship. Today TDM 2000 is universally recognized as one of the main organizations in Europe in the field of international mobility. Since its creation in 2000, the network has significantly flourished and now embraces 30 organizations from 23 different countries. The staff of the association includes designers, project managers, trainers, coaches, journalists and volunteers who work hard for the construction of a common European house.

European Solidarity Corps. In our podcast, we interviewed 2 volunteers from TDM 2000, Irina Parra and Līva Elizabete Liepina, from the European Solidarity Corps, which is the new initiative of the European Union which offers young people job or volunteer opportunities, in their own country or abroad, in the context of projects aimed at helping communities or populations in Europe.

How can youngsters participate? You can join the European Solidarity Corps from the age of 17, but you must be at least 18 to be able to start a project. The projects are open to people up to the age of 30. After completing a simple registration procedure, European Solidarity Corps participants will be able to be selected and invited to join a wide range of projects, related for example to the prevention of natural disasters or reconstruction after disasters, assistance in centres for asylum seekers or to various types of social problems in the communities. Projects supported by the European Solidarity Corps can last up to 12 months and usually take place on the territory of the Member States of the European Union.
